You have to manually remove it there if you want it done in less than 30 days. But gmail's trash is set to delete within 30 days, so it's not a problem. One thing I've found is that when you delete a messages from the trash in Mail, it doesn't remove it from the gmail site in trash. Auto-Expunge OFF & Move Message to Trash checked. You can map it to Mail's Junk mailbox.įor the Forwarding/POP&IMAP settings at the gmail site, set those boxes as described in the article. If you want to show the gmail spam mailbox, that's fine. Hide it from showing in IMAP unless you actually use it. In Yosemite, gmail's All Mail Folder shows in the Archived Mailbox in Mail (even with the archiving function off in gmail settings). The equivalent of the All Mail Folder in Mail would be a Smart Mailbox showing messages in every mailbox setup in Mail. The All Mail Folder in gmail is a pain and serves no useful purpose to me. The setup in Article (4) is the best way I've found.įor Labels, show only the main mailboxes and hide the rest in IMAP. Contact synchronization will automatically happen once an hour. The key for using gmail in Mail is to get the functions of Mail to duplicate in gmail.Within a few minutes, your Address Book should be loaded up with your Google contacts. If you have secondary calendars you want displayed, or you are using Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5), the process requires more manual settings, and I’ll cover it in a future post. Once it’s in there, you can remove the default “Home” and “Work” calendar Mac OS X creates if you’re not using them by clicking on them and typing command-Delete (if they’re empty, you won’t be warned before they are removed). Add an account, choose Google, and enter your account information. Otherwise, open iCal, go to Preferences, Accounts. On Lion, you may be offered to automatically set up iCal for your Gmail account when you set up the Mail account if so, great. Also, you can create folders inside the folder, but I recommend creating folders alongside it. Notes: You should not save Drafts on the server (meaning that any drafts you create in Apple Mail will stay there only) you will get weird duplicates of half-written emails in weird places if you do. (If you chose to leave All Mail in there, leave it as is, though you can drag mail to there as a means of “archiving”.)
